Hey y’all. Here’s a new comic and a few words about it:
This one is 100 percent true. At least the part about the Nick Nolte photo is.
Demanding as I am of likenesses, I fell a little short here. What made it tough was that (as you see below) Nolte was in mid-transformation from Hollywood hunk to the more recognizable chunk of sun and alcohol baked mud that he’s become.
I probably should have just gone for the modern likeness. But sometimes being in the memory is so vital to my process that stepping out of it risks abandoning the whole thing.
For at least a decade, I’ve been laughing at the thought of some sweet Italian family presenting their baby to the walking embodiment of cranky for use as a prop.
“Fine. Give the fucking thing to me.”
“Formaggio!”—
Oscar-worthy fake smile.
1800’s flash bulb pops.
Anyway, this time my eagerness to share the joke outweighed my self-criticism. So I let it go. For now.
If you haven't noticed... THE DRAWL has returned in a new format.
Despite my reservations toward using so much social media, I am proud of the effort put into these mini-essays. So if you're curious, I think this recent look at the Psychedelia of Steve Ditko's Doctor Strange is a good sampler:
So if you do dig ‘em, do me a favor and like, follow, and most importantly share with a pal or ten.
Hope y’all are all well. More soon…
